November 5, 2007 New York Giants Injury Report:  WR Plaxico Burress (ankle) did not participate in yesterday’s light practice.  “I’d love to get him more practice,” Head Coach Tom Coughlin said. “But that’s all based from the medical standpoint. Right now it’s not going to happen…Let’s face it, he really only plays in the game. And then he’s sore. Then it takes him a few days to get the swelling down and he puts himself back on track for the weekend. So without having the game day to where the swelling comes back and the soreness is there, he’s been able to go through that particular process. And hopefully that’ll help.”

Coughlin was less committal about the status of HB Derrick Ward, WR Steve Smith (shoulder), and SS James Butler (hamstring/ankle).  “We’ll have to see,” said Coughlin.

Flex Scheduling Will Not Affect the Games Against the Bears and Eagles:  The Giants announced yesterday that flex scheduling will have no effect on the previously scheduled start times for the December 2 game against the Bears and the December 9 game against the Eagles.

Notes and Quotes:  The players will have today off again and then begin focusing their practices on the Cowboys on Wednesday, when they first receive the game plan for Dallas.

LT David Diehl on the bye week:  “We still have things we could do better, but rest was definitely the No. 1 priority with this bye week. It’s happened at a good time. Guys have gotten away from here enough to let their bodies heal and their minds rest.”

WR Amani Toomer on the 5-day break provided by Head Coach Tom Coughlin:  “I was shocked. That’s definitely new. That’s stuff you hear happen out of other teams. I’ve never been on a team where you got this many days off. Tom, Dan Reeves, (Jim) Fassel, nobody. It was definitely good for me to get away from the whole thing, kind of just relax. It was definitely different.”

Toomer on the Giants’ upcoming schedule:  “We all know we’ve had a good run of six games, but (Dallas) is the real test for us, against one of the best teams in the division and in the league. If we want to be considered in that upper echelon of the league, this is the team and, in the next couple of weeks, these are the teams we’re going to have to beat to show everybody.”

RG Chris Snee on whether or not Dallas is the best team in the NFC:  “We’ll see.”
