January 3, 2007 New York Giants Injury Report: TE Jeremy Shockey (ankle) did not participate in the team portion of practice yesterday. “Shockey will be on the side and will hopefully we able to work (on Thursday),” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “We’ll see…The swelling is down considerably from what it was last week. He improves each day. We’re just going to have to see about that.”

“I feel better than I did a week ago,” said Shockey. “It feels sore. Progressing and I’m going to take it one day at a time.”

ESPN 1050 Radio reported yesterday that Shockey did warm up, stretch, and perform some quick-step ball-catching drills and showed no signs of the injury during the individual period. He also did some sprints at practice and appeared to come through them alright.

OG/OC/TE Rich Seubert (shin) returned to practice. “We’re going to have to see how Rich is,” said Coughlin. “Rich has not played in awhile. I thought Grey (Reugamer) played well the other night. We’re fortunate enough to have the two guys. I think that we’ll see throughout the course of the week how Rich is going to come back from a practice and whether or not he’s able to turn around and go right again. So we’ll just judge that as we go.”

Both Shockey and Seubert are officially listed as “questionable” for the game against the Eagles on Sunday.

The Giants revealed more details on CB Corey Webster’s injuries. Webster was placed on Injured Reserve on Tuesday because of a torn labrum in his hip that will require arthroscopic surgery, as well as a turf toe injury that has hampered him for several weeks.

Tiki Barber Named “NFC Offensive Player of the Week”: HB Tiki Barber was named the “NFC Offensive Player of the Week” for his performance against the Washington Redskins last Saturday. In that game, Barber rushed for a franchise and career high 234 yards. He also rushed for three touchdowns – also a career high.

Barber finished the regular season second in the NFC with 1,662 rushing yards, the highest total by a player in his final season. The former record was held by another Hall of Famer, Jim Brown, who rushed for 1,544 yards in 1965.

This is Barber’s seventh career “NFC Player of the Week Award” and second this season. He also won it after rushing for 185 yards against the Falcons in Week Six. Barber was also honored in October when he was named the “NFC Offensive Player of the Month”.

Quotes: WR Plaxico Burress on the Giants-Eagles rivalry: “It’s always a physical game. A lot of trash talking. Always a lot of hard hitting. We don’t like each other. I noticed that my first time out there last year playing against those guys. It’s one of those games that each team really gets jacked up for. Both cities don’t like each other. Our fans don’t like their fans and their fans don’t like ours.”
