October 13, 2010 New York Giants Injury Update: Not practicing yesterday were HB D.J. Ware (sore groin), FB Madison Hedgecock (hamstring), WR Victor Cruz (hamstring), OT Will Beatty (foot), DE Osi Umenyiora (knee), DE Mathias Kiwanuka (neck), and CB Brian Jackson (neck).

When asked about Kiwanuka before practice, Head Coach Tom Coughlin said there was nothing new, but Kiwanuka did work through some individual drills.

While Kiwanuka admitted season-ending surgery is still a possibility, he continues to remain positive. “There’s light at the end of the tunnel,” Kiwanuka said. “From what I’m hearing now, there’s a very strong possibility I’ll be back and I’ll be back soon.”

But asked when that might be, Kiwanuka responded, “No clue. No clue, because from the reports I’m getting, everyone’s body is different and everyone responds differently to different treatments, so it’s a matter of when it happens. We are very optimistic that it will subside on its own, but it’s a matter of when it does.”

Hedgecock did some running on Tuesday, but not at full speed.

Coughlin was asked how Beatty, who underwent foot surgery last month, is doing. “Beatty is quite well – doing quite well,” responded Coughlin. “I would say he’s advanced, but with these things you’ve got to go real slow. There is actually discussion here going forward whether he comes out of the boot, how much of the time he has to be in the boot… but he was in the weight room the other day with no boot on at all. He’s making good progress.”

“Victor (Cruz) has a hamstring that for some reason, somehow in striding Monday occurred,” said Coughlin. “You get a lot of those – as you know – Sunday after the game and then before you know it on Monday, something happens and so we have a groin with Danny (Ware), which he looked pretty darn good today. I’m impressed with the way he’s kind of bouncing around today. He has a little more of a positive attitude about that. And then Brian (Jackson) had a stiff neck or sore neck after the game, feels a lot better today but still has some of that around so they’re reluctant to do anything until they do all the tests.”

OC Shaun O’Hara (ankle), LB Keith Bulluck (toe), and FS Kenny Phillips (knee) practiced on a limited basis.

“We’ll see what (O’Hara is) like today,” said Coughlin before practice. “He’ll try to go individual and we’ll go from there.”

“Everything I did today, nothing really was too painful,” O’Hara said after practice. “I feel pretty good. I did individual. I think the one thing that we’re trying to do is just not do too much the first day, and really we’re just kind of hoping for the best and hope it feels the same tomorrow.”

“I went during individual and they just chose to hold me back after that,” Bulluck said. “But I went through individual fine. I did everything that everyone else did before the start of practice, and hopefully I can get out there tomorrow and actually practice. I think I could have today, but I just didn’t. So tomorrow I definitely see myself out there.”

OL Kevin Boothe, who is currently on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) List, is eligible to begin practicing next week. “A lot will depend on exactly where he is,” Coughlin said. “There will be no setback with him. If he’s ready to practice and ready to go, then we’ll give it full consideration. We don’t have to rush into that, because of the fact the bye week is coming up.”
