Domenik Hixon Done for the Season: The Giants announced yesterday that WR Domenik Hixon tore the ACL in his right knee in the game against the St. Louis Rams on Monday night. The injury will require surgery and Hixon is done for the season.

Hixon tore the same ACL in his right knee in June 2010. Hixon is the fifth Giant this season to suffer an ACL tear, joining CB Terrell Thomas, LB Jonathan Goff, LB Clint Sintim, and CB Brian Witherspoon. DT Marvin Austin (torn pectoral) and QB Sage Rosenfels (strep) are also on Injured Reserve.

Hixon was asked about the devastating news yesterday.

“I was (shocked),” said Hixon. “I really was. It’s not something I expected at all. Even now walking around, everybody is like ‘You’re walking normal.’ But the doctor, he didn’t make it up. It kind of still feels like a dream. It’s going to be another long road. But I’ll put the work back in and come back even better than before.”

“It’s devastating,” Hixon said. “I came back after a year. We did everything we could do to get back 100 percent. I’ve kind of got to start over again. But I’m going to be back. Everything’s going to work itself out. It’s just another chapter for the book. I hope one day, maybe a couple of years from now, we’re out somewhere and I see you guys around and we’re talking about ‘What a great comeback and Cinderella story it was.’”

“Coming off the first one I wanted to do everything I could,” said Hixon. “We did extra lifting, extra rehab. We did all we could. That’s why I say it was just meant to happen again. We did everything possible to not have it happen again…You know that’s going to be a tough road and a long road. But I’m willing to put in the work and have great trainers and doctors here. Just starting all over again. I’m going to come back and be just as fast, just as explosive.”

With Hixon out, Head Coach Tom Coughlin said that CB Aaron Ross will now return punts.

Injury Update: Aside from WR Domenik Hixon (knee), the following Giants did not practice yesterday: WR Mario Manningham (concussion), DE Osi Umenyiora (knee), and CB Prince Amukamara (foot).

The Giants announced that Manningham was examined by team physicians and by an independent neurologist on Tuesday. He also underwent the team’s protocol for concussions (MRI and DTI). The team said Manningham would undergo further examination and testing yesterday.

“(Manningham) is going to have to have further tests and further evaluation,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “He has to go through a whole bunch of things and every one of them has to be signed off on. That is not the case just yet so we will have to wait.”

When asked about Umenyiora, Coughlin responded, “It is day to day, I don’t know what to tell you. One day it looks good and the next day it is not as good. We are just doing what the medical people are trying to keep us informed about.”

H-Back Travis Beckum (hamstring) returned to practice, but was limited in yesterday’s jog-thru practice.
