September 16, 2011 New York Giants Injury Report: Not practicing yesterday were H-Back Travis Beckum (hamstring), DE Osi Umenyiora (knee), CB Prince Amukamara (foot), WR Ramses Barden (PUP – ankle), and OC Adam Koets (PUP – knee). All five players will not play on Monday night against the St. Louis Rams.
Umenyiora did practice some pass-rushing drills on the sidelines while his teammates were practicing. An unidentified source (Editor’s Note: probably Umenyiora’s agent) told the papers yesterday that Umenyiora will probably be out until Week 4. According to The Bergen Record the source said “Umenyiora will be cautious with his surgically-cleaned out right knee, ensuring he does not suffer a setback.”
“(Umenyiora) looked pretty good,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “That is a good thing. It hadn’t been that way for a couple days, it’s a good thing.”
WR Hakeem Nicks (knee) participated in individual drills but not the team portion of practice.
“(Nicks) did a little individual and caught some balls,” said Coughlin. “He worked a couple corner of the end zones and did a couple things. He is making progress…But the doctors inevitably will make (the) call (as to whether he plays against the Rams).”
“Feeling pretty good,” said Nicks. “Went out there today, did some stuff. It was kind of like a light day so I didn’t get to do too much, but I felt normal out there for what I did do…They decided they’re not letting me jump out there yet (in team work). They want to get a full week of heeling underneath my belt, but still look forward to playing Monday night… If I had to play tomorrow, I’d be out there…The swelling is gone. The pain is not really there. I think I’ll be alright.”
DE Justin Tuck (neck) practiced on a limited basis.
“(Tuck) has worked every day, so we will see how it goes,” said Coughlin. “Hopefully, the doctors will go on with it.”
“I feel encouraged,” said Tuck.
DE Justin Trattou Back on Practice Squad: According to press reports, DE Justin Trattou, who was waived to make room for WR Brandon Stokley, was re-signed to the Practice Squad yesterday. No word yet on who was cut from the Practice Squad to make room for Trattou.
