New York Giants Practice Squad Officially Announced: The Giants have officially announced the eight players who they have signed to the Practice Squad:

  • QB Rhett Bomar (2009 5th round pick)
  • HB Allen Patrick
  • FB Nehemiah Broughton
  • TE Kareem Brown
  • DT Anthony Bryant
  • CB DeAndre Wright (2009 6th round pick)
  • S Sha’reff Rashad
  • S Vince Anderson

Bomar, Patrick, Bryant, Wright, Rashad, and Anderson were waived by the Giants on Saturday.

Broughton was originally drafted in the 7th round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. He has spent time with the Redskins (2005-08), Panthers (2008-09), and Vikings (2009). The Vikings waived him in September 2009. Broughton has played in six NFL games, the last being in 2006 with Washington.

Brown was originally drafted as a defensive end in the 4th round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. The Patriots waived him in November 2007. The Jets claimed him off of waivers. He spent the 2008 season on both the Jets’ 53-man roster and their Practice Squad as the Jets moved him to tight end. The Jets waived him in September 2009. Brown has only played in one NFL game, that being in 2007 with the Jets.

The Star-Ledger report of the Giants adding TE Jason Pociask to the practice squad was obviously in error.

Injury Update: MLB Antonio Pierce (excused absence), CB Aaron Ross (hamstring), and OC Adam Koets (ankle) did not practice yesterday.

When asked about Ross, Head Coach Tom Coughlin said, “We’ll see as the week goes on. We are optimistic.”

DT Chris Canty (hamstring) practiced. “He seems to be doing better,” said Coughlin. “We will see how it goes along.”

“I got to practice a little bit today again,” said Canty. “And it felt really good.”

LT David Diehl (patellar tendinitis), OT Guy Whimper (hip), HB Danny Ware (ribs), and S Kenny Phillips (knee) all practiced.
