A Good Old-Fashioned Ass Kicking: The New York Giants annihilated the Seattle Seahawks earlier today at the Meadowlands 44-6.  The Giants led 27-6 at halftime and scored 17 more unanswered points in the second half.

“Well, that was what we call a good old-fashioned you-know-what,” said Seattle Head Coach Mike Holmgren.  “They really took it to us today…This was a bad one.  They got us pretty good.  They’re a talented team, and they got rolling and we couldn’t stop them.”

Aside from the score, the Giants dominated in a number of key statistical areas: first downs (27 to 13), total net yards (523 to 187), net yards rushing (254 to 74), and net yards passing (269 to 113).

Most impressive was that the Giants scored on each of their first six offensive possessions, and eight of their 10 possessions, not including the last drive when they kneeled on the football at the end of the game.

  • 4 plays, 91 yards, touchdown (32-yard pass from QB Eli Manning to WR Domenik Hixon)
  • 6 plays, 75 yards, touchdown (3-yard run by HB Brandon Jacobs)

  • 11 plays, 73 yards, touchdown (1-yard run by Jacobs)
  • 10 plays, 60 yards, field goal (33-yard field goal by Carney)
  • 6 plays, 80 yards, touchdown (23-yard pass from Manning to WR Sinorice Moss)
  • 3 plays, 9 yards, punt
  • 7 plays, 14 yards, field goal (35-yard field goal)
  • 7 plays, 77 yards, touchdown (5-yard pass from QB David Carr to Moss)
  • 5 plays, 17 yards punt

Meanwhile, the Seahawks were held to only two scoring drives, both resulting in harmless field goals.  Eight other drives ended with punts, another with an interception.

Manning finished the game 19-of-25 for 267 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. Jacobs carried the ball 15 times for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns.  HB Ahmad Bradshaw had 65 yards on 11 carries and HB Derrick Ward chipped in another 40 yards on 7 carries.  Three Giants’ receivers had four catches: Hixon (102 yards, 1 touchdown), Amani Toomer (64 yards), and Moss (45 yards, 2 touchdowns).

Defensively, aside from holding the Seahawks to 6 points, 13 first downs, and 187 total net yards, DE Mathias Kiwanuka and DE Dave Tollefson picked up a sack each and CB Kevin Dockery intercepted a pass.

Injury Report – Hixon and McKenzie Suffer Concussions: WR Domenik Hixon and RT Kareem McKenze both left the game with concussions and did not return. “We will see,” said Head Coach Tom  Coughlin.  I think probably tomorrow we will be able to tell more.”

Post-Game Notes: Inactive for the Giants were HB Danny Ware, WR Taye Biddle, OT Adam Koets, DE Jerome McDougle (knee), LB Jonathan Goff, CB Sam Madison, CB Terrell Thomas, and PK Lawrence Tynes (knee).

The last time the Giants started a season 4-0 was 1990.

The Giants are 3-0 at home, matching their total home win record from last season.

The 38-point margin of victory was the Giants’ largest in a regular-season game since a 62-10 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on November 26, 1972.

The Giants improved to 5-15 in games following a regular season bye.

The Giants’ 342 first-half yards were the most by an NFL team this season.
