New York Giants Elect Team Captains: The Giants players elected five team captains for the 2008 NFL season.

The offensive captains are QB Eli Manning and WR Amani Toomer.  The defensive captains are LB Antonio Pierce and DT Fred Robbins.  The special teams captains is P Jeff Feagles.

Manning, Pierce, and Feagles were also captains in 2007. Toomer has replaced OC Shaun O’Hara on offense, while Robbins replaces the retired DE Michael Strahan on defense.

“It feels good to have your teammates and your peers nominate you for something like that,” said Robbins, who said he was a team captain in both high school and at Wake Forest. “It’s an honor. It’s not something to take lightly.”

“I’m really happy,” Toomer said. “I haven’t really been captain on a team since high school, so I’m very excited about that. When your teammates elect you captain it’s a real special thing. It just makes you put that much more on the season personally, because I am one of the captains. It’s definitely going to be interesting dealing with that change, because I’ve been around so long doing the same thing, now I have to go out and do the coin toss. That will be pretty interesting.”

More Practice Squad Moves: A day after signing him to the Practice Squad, the Giants released CB Geoffrey Pope yesterday.

The Giants also added TE Eric Butler, who was waived by the Giants on Saturday, and CB Rashad Barksdale, who was released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday, to the Practice Squad.

Giants Interested in OT Willie Anderson?: Bengals.com is reporting that the Giants are one of several teams that has expressed interested in OT Willie Anderson, who was recently waived by the Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens, Chargers, Bears, Buccaneers, and Rams are also said to be interested in his services.

Injury Report: Not practicing again yesterday were LB Jonathan Goff (back), CB Terrell Thomas (hamstring), WR Domenik Hixon (back), and PK Lawrence Tynes (knee).  The Giants have already said that Thomas and Goff will not play against the Redskins on Thursday.

“(Hixon) is coming,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin.  “I think he will practice tomorrow.”

“(Thomas) will be awhile,” said Coughlin.
