New York Giants Sign DE Jerome McDougle: The Giants yesterday signed DE Jerome McDougle, who was waived by the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, to a 1-year, $1 million contract. The Panthers and Texans were also reportedly interested in McDougle’s services.

“(McDougle) has had a good preseason,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “He has practiced, he hasn’t missed any time, he played well the other night against New England’s ones, and we just felt like when we evaluated those that were released that he certainly was a guy that created great interest for us and can help us.”

“He is a defensive end and he is a pass-rusher and he can fit in a rotation and can be a part of any third down package or second-and-long package that we have,” said Coughlin. “He gives us some flexibility and again versatility with a player.  We are constantly trying to upgrade and obviously in this situation some attention had to be spent on the defensive end spot so we think that this is going to be a real good investment for us.”

“It is great (being with the Giants),” said McDougle. “Defending Super Bowl champs…I look good in blue.  I feel good to be here, staying in the division, so not really much of a difference as far as guys you are going against, and I just feel good to be here, to be wanted, and I am just looking forward to doing some good things on this defense.  I like the defensive scheme, it is sort of the same kinds of things that I came from – a lot of movement – and we get after it.”

“I did well (in the preseason),” said McDougle. “I wanted to continue to get better.  I still have things I need to work on.  Obviously it is going to be a different atmosphere for me, so I need to kind of get the terminology and get everything down.  Football is football when it comes down to it so I am just looking forward to getting out here and mixing it up a little bit, just getting with my teammates.  Kind of learn everybody, learn how I play, learn how everybody else plays, and start winning some games.”

“I feel great,” said McDougle. “I feel great.  I feel great.  The defending Super Bowl champs, a top class organization. What else could you want?”
