Quarterback David Carr to Visit the New York Giants:  According to press reports, unrestricted free agent QB David Carr, who was recently released by the Carolina Panthers, will visit the Giants tonight and tomorrow.  Carr was the very first player drafted in the 2002 NFL Draft when the Houston Texans selected him.  Giants’ Quarterback Coach Chris Palmer was the Offensive Coordinator in Houston from 2001-2005.

The Giants had expressed some interest in unrestricted free agent quarterbacks Todd Collins, Cleo Lemons, and Trent Green.  Colllins re-signed with the Redskins while Lemons signed with the Jaguars and Green signed with the Rams.

Giants Reportedly $11 Million Under Salary Cap:  According to The Daily News‘ Giants blog, the Giants are currently about $11.2 million under the 2008 salary cap.  They lost some cap space when they tendered their restricted and exclusive rights free agents, re-signed kickers Jeff Feagles and Lawrence Tynes, and signed SS Sammy Knight from the Jaguars.  In addition, the Giants lost approximately $3 million in not “likey to be earned” bonuses that were received by players on the roster that were not factored against the 2007 salary cap.  The Daily News‘ Giants blog says the Giants need to set aside $4-5 million of their available cap space for the rookie class.
