January 31, 2008 New York Giants Injury Report – Burress Misses Practice Again with Knee and Ankle Problems:  WR Plaxico Burress did not practice for the second day in a row.  It was revealed yesterday that Burress is not just having issues with his right ankle, but also his left knee.

“He has an ankle that always has been a problem, but he also has some issues with a knee that off and on in the past has bothered him,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin.  “That’s the thing right now. Between the two of them, that’s why he’s not working. He comes out and tries to go and can’t go.”

“Who knows, it may be related,” Coughlin said of the knee and ankle issues.  “It’s a matter of how fast the swelling goes down so he can deal with it.”

Before yesterday’s practice, Burress was asked why he did not practice on Wednesday.  “I went through the walk-through that morning and came out and went through the individual drills, caught a few balls, ran a couple routes,” said Burress.  “They asked me how I felt and I said I was a little sore.  They said to make my own decision based on how I feel and I took the day off.  That’s what we’ve been doing all year.  It’s no surprise or shock to my teammates or anybody else.  I’m just gauging myself on how I feel, personally.  If I felt that it was sore (on Wednesday) and went through the whole day, it probably would have felt worse (on Thursday). That’s not what we’re after; we’re after feeling as best we can going into the game on Sunday.”

LG Rich Seubert (knee) and CB Kevin Dockery (hip flexor) practiced fully.

Notes and Quotes:  Patriots’ WR Randy Moss on if the Giants could rattle Patriots’ QB Tom Brady: “To put himself in a situation where he might be rattled?  I think if you take the five offensive linemen out of the equation and make him snap the ball to himself and let (Michael) Strahan and them rush, you’ll probably rattle him. Six on 11…you’ll probably rattle him. That’s about it.”

General Manager Jerry Reese on how the increase in the salary cap will affect the Giants:  “Some think it’s good and some think it’s bad.  We’ll have more money than we had last year.  We really didn’t have a lot of money to go shopping last year, but that was a blessing in disguise because we went after some guys and didn’t get them.   We were going to over-extend ourselves to a degree, and you really don’t want to do that.  We’ll have more money to shop around with in the offseason, and we’ll try to get some guys.”

Defensive Line Coach Mike Waufle on DT Manny Wright:  “He’s got a lot of talent physically, but he’s got to get the mental part of it.”
