New York Giants Ask Fans to Wear Red on Sunday:  The Giants have asked BigBlueInteractive.com to get the word out that the team would like their fans who are attending the Giants-Cowboys game on Sunday to wear red.

Injury Update – Burress Practices on a Limited Basis:  Minutes after Head Coach Tom Coughlin said WR Plaxico Burress would not practice, Burress participated in individual drills and practiced with the rest of the team on a limited basis yesterday.  It was the first time Burress has practiced since September 12.

“When we came in from walkthrough this morning, Plaxico felt like he wanted to give it a go at practice,” said Coughlin after practice. “The medical staff said it was okay on a limited basis. He went out with the intent of going through the individual drills. He felt good after those, and we let him run one every three or four plays for the first half of practice. He did well working under some limitations, like no jumping. The team gave him a Bronx cheer the first time he caught a ball during team work. Now we will see how he feels (on Thursday).”

“It feels about the same,” said Burress. “It’s getting a little stronger. Hopefully, it can keep getting better as the season goes on. All I can really do is keep rehabbing and hope it keeps getting better.”

“I don’t know,” said Burress when asked if will practice on Thursday.  “I’ll wake up tomorrow and see how I feel. I’m pretty sure I’ll be a little sore. I’ll get a lot of treatment before I go home. If I can go out and get some reps tomorrow, I’ll do that.”

Not participating were HB Derrick Ward (ankle/groin) and WR Steve Smith (hamstring).

Regarding Ward’s situation, Coughlin said, “Well, we’ll see.  We’ll see how it goes.  He had a little setback with the groin.  So it has been slowed down a little bit.  So I’m not sure.  We’ll go day-to-day and see where he is.  We thought he might get to work a little bit (on Wednesday), but that was not the case.”

Regarding Smith, Coughlin said, “He was working his way, as you know, back to full speed.  He had no limitations and then we got the hamstring issue.”

SS James Butler (ankle/hamstring) returned to practice.  “At this point (Butler) certainly is (our starting strong safety),” said Coughlin, “but I think Michael Johnson has done enough in games to show that he deserves to have some play time as well.”

Notes and Quotes:  Former Giants’ Head Coach Jim Fassel will be at Giants Stadium for Sunday’s game.  He will work the game as color analyst for Westwood One radio.

WLB Kawika Mitchell on Cowboys’ TE Jason Witten:  “We didn’t pay enough attention to one of their most valuable weapons (the last time we played Dallas). You just can’t let a guy like that get open. We didn’t get physical with him.”

CB R.W. McQuarters on Witten:  “A lot of it was zone drops that we didn’t get deep enough on and he got behind us. He’s going to get his catches, but what we can’t allow is for him to get behind us like that.”

WR Plaxico Burress on QB Eli Manning:  “I honestly think he’s ready to go. I think he’s going to come out and play better than he did in the first half.”
