November 1, 2006 New York Giants Injury Report – 10 Players Miss Practice Time: WR Plaxico Burress (back spasms) left practice early yesterday and was added to the injury report as “probable” for the game against the Texans on Sunday.

DE Osi Umenyiora (hip flexor), DE Justin Tuck (foot), LB Brandon Short (quad), CB Sam Madison (hamstring), CB Corey Webster (back), WR Amani Toomer (ankle), WR David Tyree (ankle), WR Sinorice Moss (quad), and FB Jim Finn (ankle) did not practice yesterday.

Tuck and Moss are “doubtful” for the game against the Texans on Sunday.

Umenyiora, Short, Madison, and Tyree are “questionable.”

Webster, Toomer, and Finn are “probable.”

“(Umenyiora and Madison are) continuing to get better, but they won’t be able to go today,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. All Coughlin would say about Short is, “He has a muscle injury.”

Regarding Tuck being downgraded to “doubtful,” Coughlin said, “It’s just one of those things where I’m looking at it saying realistically is he going to make it or not. There’s been no set-back, though.”

CB Frank Walker (hamstring) did practice and is “probable” for the game against the Texans.

Tiki Barber Named “NFC Offensive Player of the Month”: HB Tiki Barber has been selected as the “NFC Offensive Player of the Month” for the month of October. During that time frame, Barber rushed for 490 yards on 102 carries (a 4.8 yards-per-rush average) and caught 13 passes for 100 yards.

Barber is the NFL’s leading rusher with 715 yards. He is third in the league in yards from scrimmage with 957 and tied for first in first downs with 50.

This is Barber’s third “NFC Offensive Player of the Month” award. He was also honored in November 2002 and December 2005. It is the sixth time a Giant has received the award. Phil Simms won in December 1986, David Meggett in September 1994, and Kerry Collins in December 2002.

Quotes: Houston Texans’ Head Coach Gary Kubiak on QB Eli Manning: “As Eli grows, I think their football team is growing and getting better. He’s handling situations as well as you can handle them. When I look at last week’s game and knowing how tough this game is, not only tough, but as a quarterback to see him play in those conditions he played in last week, he just really managed the game well. He did what he had to do for his football team to win on that given day. That tells you a guy’s really growing up. I just see a whole group that is gaining a lot of confidence, that has a lot of playmakers on their team, and their leader’s playing very, very well.”
