October 10, 2006 New York Giants Injury Report: The Giants released the following injury update on TE Jeremy Shockey yesterday:

On Tuesday morning tight end Jeremy Shockey concluded a battery of tests – which started with an x-ray immediately following Sunday’s victory over Washington – on his right foot and ankle. All tests were negative. The soreness in Shockey’s foot and ankle and his ability to practice will be assessed on a day-to-day basis in preparation for Sunday’s game in Atlanta.

Notes and Quotes: The Giants have the third best run defense in the NFL, in terms of yards per carry. Giants’ opponents are averaging only 3.0 yards per carry. The Falcons (the Giants’ next opponent) are averaging 234 rushing yards per game.

QB Eli Manning on why his completion rate is now third best in the NFL: “It’s a combination of a lot of things. Part of it is just making fast decisions, getting the ball out of my hands quickly and making better decisions about where to go with the ball. A big factor is just receivers getting open. They’re making the right reads and making them quickly so you can read their body. They know the offense better. When guys are open, your completion percentage is going to go up. And they’re also making some great catches – Amani (Toomer), Plaxico (Burress), Tim Carter – we’re getting everybody involved. (Jeremy) Shockey and even Tiki (Barber) – we’re spreading the ball around. Wherever the read tells you to go, we’re trying to get to that guy. The guy that’s supposed to get open is doing it and we’re able to complete the ball.”
